The Italian boatyard Cantieri Navali d'Este offers initially only one version, which is not a pure racer, but a compromise with interior comfort with three double cabins, bathroom, galley and salon, all with generous natural light and ventilation.
The prototype is equipped with a high tensile steel lifting keel (optional), with a hydraulic mechanism which reduces draft from 3 to 1.6 metres. Hull, appendages and sail plan have been developed using CFD and VPP. The hull lines correspond to the third generation of this type of boats introducing a full length hard chine; it's function is to transform an upright low wetted area hull into a high form stability geometry when heeled, moving the centre of buoyancy sideways when the chine gets underwater enhancing planning and directional stability.
Built in glass/epoxy/corecell under vacuum infusion. The deck follows the cruiser/racer versatility with a large cockpit and comfortable position for the skipper, twin rudder tiller arms, seats with coamings and two ergonomic protected seats just before the companionway.
The Class 40 rules are simple and their target is to create boats which are safe, fast, liveable and affordable. The use of carbon fibre is only allowed in the mast, boom and bowsprit. Pre-preg, honeycomb cores and titanium are forbidden materials. They are equipped with foam volumes and two watertight bulkheads in order to guarantee unsinkability.
