A CLASS

Paradoxically being a free parameter, nearly all the fleet uses a rotating wing section 9 metres tall mast. The A-Class was the first boat to introduce the big-head mainsail back in 1987, which is nowadays widely used in all racing boats.

The A-Class upwind speed is 10+ knots and 25+ knots when reaching. The key to reach these speeds is her ability to generate apparent wind due to her design efficiency and low weight, which is similar to her crew's weight. She is a balanced boat with all the controls handled from the trapeze. The sensations that the A-Class offers makes this catamaran to be considered by many as the most elegant boat ever conceived.

The working path followed for the development of the Balance A-Class has been a deep hydrodynamic and structural research.

A total of 130 different hull designs were considered and analyzed with CFD in a 0-25knots speed range. Hulls are built in a single piece in pre-preg carbon/epoxy/nomex sandwich cured at 120ºC / 3 bar. Intermediate modulus carbon is used on the unidirectionals to increase strength and stiffness. "D" section cross-beams are single skin structures autoclave cured at 120ºC / 6bar; all the fittings on these precious spars are glued on to them, non a single drill is done.
